Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University hosted a sports festival «United by Sunny Dreams», during which a national record of Ukraine was set.
At the beginning of the event, Oleksandr Zashko, a student of Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Health, Daryna Maryash and Vladyslava Pekna, the students with hearing impairment of Lutsk Lyceum No. 15, performed the National Anthem of Ukraine. Afterwards, all the soldiers who had given their lives defending the country from the russian invaders were commemorated.
People with Down syndrome from nine different regions of Ukraine gathered at the University Sports Complex. In particular, the representatives of Volyn, Rivne, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Odesa, Kherson, Poltava, and Khmelnytskyi regions took part in setting the record.
The celebration was also attended by guests, the representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Volyn Regional State Administration, Directorate General of the National Police in Volyn Region, Directorate General of the State Emergency Service in Volyn Region, Patrol Police Department in Volyn region, Lutsk City Council, Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, sports, art, religious and educational sectors, members of public organisations.
The total of 154 people with Down’s syndrome participated in the record to perform the most mass sports dance in Ukraine in the sports hall. The guests could also join in and performed the dance together. The University lecturer, choreographer Oleksandr Kashevskyi showed everyone the moves, helped to set the record.
Therefore, to the fiery music, the participants, together with the guests and the audience, performed an energetic dance, while Head of the National Register of Records of Ukraine, Lana Vetrova, recorded the national record and handed the corresponding certificates to Executive Director of the Special Olympics of Ukraine Andriy Pidvark, Director of the «Caritas – Spes Lutsk» RO, the canonical father Pavlo Khomyak.
People’s Deputy of Ukraine Iryna Konstankevych congratulated the participants on setting a record noting that this is a gift for everyone on the occasion of the Day of Sobornosti (Unity). «It is symbolic that on January 22 we celebrated the Day of the Sobornosti of Ukraine, and today 154 “sunny people” united in this sports hall to set a national record. I wish all the record holders good health, peace, victory and new, larger records at a new level,» said Iryna Myroslavivna.
Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University was among the event organisers. The University students and lecturers volunteered and helped the participants during the setting of the record. Dean of Faculty of Physical Culture, Sports and Health, Vasyl Pantik, congratulated everyone on setting a record, wished the participants good health and new achievements.
Afterwards, everyone could enjoy the gymnastic performances of Victoria Sliusarenko, a guest from Poltava region, a vocal and dance performance by the «Flyzzza» band, took part in a sports exercises, got acquainted with the work of special services, and more.
