Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University presented an exhibition of art works by the students of Department of Fine Arts «Seven Strings, Seven Colours... Lesya’s Rainbow». The venue took place on February 21, 2024 in the institution’s headquarters.
The event was dedicated to the 153rd anniversary of Lesya Ukrainka’s birthday and University Day. Bohdan Lukashuk hosted the event. At the beginning of the event, the National Anthem of Ukraine was sung and the fallen Heroes were honoured.
«We have Lesya days, University Day, when we commemorate our patroness and join her creative legacy. This year also marks Olena Pchilka's birth anniversary,» Rector Anatolii Tsos noted in his opening speech and underlined that the University honours Lesya Ukrainka’s mother with a number of initiatives. «Speaking about the exhibition, I am impressed by the talent of our representatives of Faculty of Culture and Arts. Beautiful works, warm colours evoking positive emotions, so necessary in our time,» he concluded.
Later, Vitalii Okhmanyuk, Dean of Faculty of Culture and Arts, was invited to give a welcome speech mentioning Lesya Ukrainka as a very multifaceted creator. He emphasized that the University patroness wrote a number of songs. He thanked all the departments, lecturers and students who participated in the organisation of the event.
Head of Department of Fine Arts, Tetiana Prokopovych, said that Lesya Ukrainka also liked to draw but it was hardly possible due to her health. «The students of our department use Lesya Ukrainka’s works and imagery, her personality in their works. This exhibition presents the semester and diploma theses of our winners. This is a modern vision of Lesya Ukrainka,» said Tetiana Prokopovych.
During the event, Anastasia Hordienko and Ivanna Butsuk presented musical compositions. The final chord of the event was the theatrical and artistic presentation (performance) of creative works of the students of Department of Choreography and Design «Paths of Lesya’s Mystery». Authors of the project: Honoured Artist of Ukraine, Associate Professor of Department of Choreography, Volodymyr Zamlynnyi, Assistant Professor of Department of Choreography, Maksym Kutuzov, and Associate Professor of Department of Design, Maria Nazarchuk.
