On August 23, a presentation of the book "History of Volyn" took place inside the walls of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. Lesya's people, authorities, the clergy, and the general public attended the event.
This book is a unique study of Volyn as an important historical and geographical region of Ukraine. The coverage of the problems is based on the original source basis resting on archival materials and publications compiled by Ukrainian and foreign scholars. The work is built on the chronological-problematic principle and consists of an introduction, eleven chapters, conclusions, a list of recommended literature, name and geographical indexes.
The event moderator was Dean of the Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security Yaroslav Yarosh. "The process of preparing the book lasted for years. We have had discussions about sections and subdivisions, the structure of the work. The result of this work was eleven chapters reflecting the most significant milestones in the history of our region," noted the head of the specialised structural unit of the university. According to him, the authors of the publication are ready to cooperate with all communities and make presentations of the book in different locations.
Metropolitan Mykhail of Lutsk and Volyn thanked the University scholars for the important research resulting in publishing "History of Volyn". "More books like this should be written. I wish you to carry on," said the bishop.
"We have long considered the university as a centre of education, science, culture, volunteering and other important areas. Implementation of projects of regional and national significance is important in this context. Volyn has a strong educational tradition and rich history. We must study the history of Volyn and promote it," summed up Rector Anatolii Tsos and suggested that scholars should translate the publication into English.
Hryhoriy Nedopad, Chairman of Volyn Regional Council, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the University, also celebrated the presentation of the book. "The book "History of Volyn" is our business card, our presentation material. Forward to the new research," he said and expressed his belief that historians of the University will be able to prepare more than one such specialist and professional publication. In addition, Hryhoriy Nedopad presented honorary thanks of Volyn Regional Council.
A team of scholars from Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and some other institutions worked on the book. The editor-in-chief of the publication is Mykola Kucherepa, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor of Department of History of Ukraine and Archeology of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University.
"I congratulate everyone on an important event in our Volyn history. At the end of the day, we got what we longed for: we recreated the events that took place in Volyn from ancient times to the present day," Mykola Kucherepa mentioned. According to him, the last book on the history of Volyn was published in Soviet times. University scientists worked in Ukrainian and foreign archives, used various sources to prepare the book "History of Volyn". "We had a large source basis," noted Mykola Kucherepa.
The reviewers of the study were: Volodymyr Baran, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Head of Department of History of Ukraine and Archeology of our University; Ruslana Davydiuk, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Department of History of Ukraine, Rivne State Humanitarian University; Volodymyr Trofymovych, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Department of History named after M. P. Kowalskyi, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine from the National University of Ostroh Academy.
The motif of the book is the local people's struggle for Ukrainian statehood during the time when Volyn was part of foreign countries. The authors did not stay away from the problem of participation of Volhynians in the defence of the territorial integrity of our state during the full-scale war of the russian federation against Ukraine. The book contains many reproductions of engravings, icons, old portraits, paintings, archival and modern photographs testifying to the beliefs of Volyn residents about the region's past.
