On March 19, 2025, a lecture by Ihor Ostash ''Ahatanhel Krymskyi and the Middle East” was held at the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. The event was attended by the institution’s management, Chairman of the Supervisory Board Iryna Konstankevych, a delegation from Volodymyr Pedagogical Vocational College named after Ahatanhel Krymskyi, and the students.
“We are truly lucky to live in Volyn, a land not only rich in history, but also in outstanding people who were born and created here. We have many brilliant Volyn residents, and this is not only Lesya Ukrainka, but also Vʼyacheslav Lypynskyi, Ihor Stravinskyi, and, of course, Ahatanhel Krymskyi. Volyn National University is actively elabourating the promotion of our outstanding countrymen. We are sincerely grateful to Mr. Igor for the meaningful and exciting lecture. The figure of Agatangel Krymskyi is significant not only for Volyn, but also for world culture, so we must understand his significance, take care of his legacy and promote its popularisation. We will continue to work to make the name of A. Krymskyi widely known,” Anatolii Tsos noted.
As part of the lecture, video materials about the life of Ahatanhel Krymskyi and his research into the Arab world were demonstrated. Plans for further promotion of the historian and his scientific legacy were also discussed.
Ihor Ostash, a Ukrainian diplomat and researcher, emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy and Krymskyi's role in establishing Ukrainian-Eastern relations: “For Ukraine, especially in this difficult wartime, it is extremely important to establish ties with the countries of the global South, in particular with the Arab world. The key to this is cultural diplomacy, and it is Ahatanhel Krymskyi who can become such a figure to connect Ukraine with the Arab, Persian and Turkic spaces. He spent almost two years in the Middle East, in Lebanon, and left a unique legacy – literary, cultural, and linguistic. His works can become an important tool for strengthening the Ukrainian presence in the global South.
The delegation of Volodymyr Pedagogical College named after Ahatanhel Krymsky presented the creative works of the students dedicated to the life and work of the outstanding scholar. People's Deputy of Ukraine Iryna Konstankevych also emphasized the significance of Krymskyi's figure: "It is very important for all Volyn residents and Ukrainians to know about Ahatanhel Krymsky not only because he was born in Volyn, but also because of his contribution to the popularisation of Ukraine in the world, the development of cultural and scientific ties with Eastern countries. Thanks to such personalities, Ukraine was already known as a nation back then. Today, when the struggle for our statehood continues, it is extremely important that the countries of the global South support Ukraine," Iryna Konstankevych noted.
We would like to remind you that in January of this year, Ihor Ostash already visited Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and discussed the popularisation of the works of Lesya Ukrainka and Ahatanhel Krymskyi, in particular in Arab countries. The event became another step in the popularisation of Ahatanhel Krymskyi, contributing to his proper recognition both in Ukraine and abroad.
