On December 13, 2023, a significant event took place at the Faculty of Philology and Journalism – the seventieth anniversary of Department of Ukrainian Literature.
On the occasion of the celebrations, an honorary society gathered in the room – the administration of the University, teaching staff representatives, and students of the faculty. The event was moderated by the head of the jubilee department Viktor Yaruchyk. At the beginning of the event, he mentioned the feat of the Defenders fighting for the independence of Ukraine, and thanked them. Viktor Pavlovych noted that the department is one of the oldest in the University and has undergone changes throughout its history. After all, on the occasion of this significant date, the staff of Department of Ukrainian Literature prepared a collection about its long history.
The next person invited to speak was People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Professor of Department of Ukrainian Literature Iryna Konstankevych. According to her, this event is an opportunity to sum up the results and remember personalities significant for the department. «Our cathedral school gave me the opportunity to further work in local self-government bodies and in the Verkhovna Rada. The stock of knowledge and managerial experience that I received at the University gives me the opportunity to be competent in the issues that we consider in the Parliament. I thank my native department for my establishment,» Iryna Myroslavivna summed up.
Rector Anatolii Tsos also spoke a lot with kindness. «I sincerely thank the department staff for your work, extraordinary educational and scientific activities, engagement with students,» he said. Rector spoke about the fact that he often meets teachers in the schools of the region who used to be the students of Faculty of Philology and Journalism and fondly remember him. Anatolii Tsos presented honorary thanks to the staff of Department of Ukrainian Literature.
Director of T. H. Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Mykola Zhulynskyi, mentioned the significant personalities and events that played a valuable role in the establishment of the Department of Ukrainian Literature. The outstanding scholar did not overlook the complete 14-volume academic collection of Lesya Ukrainka’s works. Mykola Zhulynskyi congratulated everyone involved and expressed hope for further constructive and fruitful cooperation.
Vice-Rector for Academic Work and Recruitment Yurii Hromyk, who was in charge of Faculty of Philology and Journalism, shared his own memories of the anniversary department. «It was always a pleasure to work with you. Seventy years is a reason to talk not only about department achievements. This is the generation of people who worked here. The names associated with the department are true legends,» he summarised.
Liliia Lavrynovych, Dean of Faculty of Philology and Journalism, thanked the staff of the department for their fruitful and conscientious work. «I am very pleased to see such a circle of people loving and respecting Department of Ukrainian Literature,» she said.
During the event, the professors and teaching staff of the department were presented with awards, such as diplomas and letters of gratitude of various levels. Numerous colleagues from other educational institutions, the University departments and its structural units congratulated the jubilees.
